NZ vs SL 2010 T20 WC 1st Match Result - New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 2 wickets in a thriller
In the opening low scoring thrilling match of 2010 Twenty20 World Cup, New Zealand beat last year runner-up Sri Lanka by 2 wickets with just 1 ball remaining on Friday, 30th April, 2010 at Guyana. SL made 135/6 in 20 overs and NZ made 139/8 in 19.5 overs.
Sri Lanka got decent start on slow pitch thanks to Mahela Jayawardhane played brilliantly with 51 balls 81 runs with 8 fours and 2 sixes well supported by debutant Chandimal with 29 runs to set uo a competitive total.
New Zealand got a bad start as they lost McCullum in maiden 1st over but Jesse Ryder 42 off 27 balls and they were 62/1 in 8 overs before Muralitharan took 2 wickets in 1 over and then they played so slowly and regular wickets put them on back foot but Oram, Vettori put some quick runs in the end to set a thrilling victory.
